The only movie where Hrithik was not Hrithik and instead a character was in Koi Mil Gaya. People in general looked very well groomed and the women folk, especially the lead actress seems to have smooth flowing hair with curls just as if she's stepped out of a parlor. The language had to be Hindi for obvious reasons, but the costumes and make up (especially hair) didn't look like they were from 2016 BC. Why? WHAT WORKS: What works for the movie is its sets. This story would have worked in any kind of kingdom in India a few hundred years back. The movie needn't have gone back as far as 2000 BC to tell the story it tells. Its quite evident that the director is greatly inspired by period flicks and you see several elements borrowed from Hollywood hits like Gladiator and Troy. It could have been a great movie if not for the flaws that stand out and keep it from becoming a classic. Its made well and has a story that doesn't bore you but its still a love story like every other Bollywood film. Not as bad as the negative publicity makes it out to be.
